Saturday June 27/15

After careful planning and much deliberation we were ready for an attempt to launch the Lund.
Our arsenal of launching equipment consisted of a cedar fence post and a 2 x 4. (both provided by the Acme Boat Launching Equipment Supply Company)
Our plan was, basically, to push it off the cliff and hope for the best. (sorry Bruce)
We figured we should record the episode lest this be the Lund's last voyage..

Easy peasy!

Spent the remainder of the day working on the dock. Had to re-attach most of the barrel supports and reinforced the center board with a steel corner bracket. Very few screws holding down the old planking were still intact, most were broken.

The mosquitoes and mayflies are numerous this year. The gulls are having a feeding frenzy every night at dusk. The dragonflies are also plentiful, and huge.

We  finished re-planking the dock. We ended up short 2 boards so if anyone wants to bring some up....
We  used some scrap lumber to finish covering the corner for the time being.

Here's a picture of the finished dock, the cedar looks great.

WHAT???   No video, you say??   Oh, we have video.....here is 2 days worth.

Dave got some great shots of a Sandhill Crane.

And a dragonfly snacking on a shadfly.

We also tried out the heli. A short flight, I didn't want to lose it the first time out.
Funny how we went from running a GoPro up the flag pole last year, to this.

For dinner we used some ground beef (left over from our tacos on Saturday night) and a couple of sausage buns cut into thirds, to make Sliders, complete with onion straws. Outstanding!

Darlene arrives tomorrow with the rest of the family. Time to clean the place up.

First Post of the Season, 2015

Thursday June 25

Dave and I arrived in the afternoon of June 25. We are using Camp Dore as our marina this year. The owners, Jim and Cathy are really nice people.
Somehow one of the dust caps on the boat trailer fell off on the way up. Noticed it at Pt. au Baril. None at the Home Hardware, no marina in the area had one so we drove on to the Key. Jim had one for us in no time, no charge.
The boat was heavily loaded. 10 gallons of gas(plus 20 in the tank), 10 gallons of water, 3 propane cylinders, two 10' 2x10's and various other lumber.
Got to the cottage around 4:30.

Friday June 26

Tackled the split water line in the morning.  The hardest parts were removing the broken plastic fitting in the tap which Dave accomplished with the help of a propane torch and a chisel, and feeding the new line under the cottage. This we did with the help of a paint brush, some wire and duct tape. (don't ask).

Next on the list was the ramp from the dock. This thing was really on its last legs and a total health hazard.

What follows is a video time lapse (thanks Dave) of how we went....

We also got the new dock leveled but we may nee to raise it a few more inches. We'll see what the water level does in the next few days. We'll need a short ramp here too, to go from the stairs to the dock.

Pizza for supper tonight.
Tomorrow we work on decking the dock and try to launch the Lund.
